Start to Finish: Building Our 50' Skater

Engine hatches and actuators installed. My hatches are sealed with no "blower scoops" or air intakes. The air intake and engine room air exhaust is in the shark fin to move it away and up from the side of the boat. The hatches are lengthened a foot to have more room to get in there and work on it. I have a few more layers of material and a few lengthwise braces to make them strong incase we are taking waves over the side.

What's the big tower thingy in between the engine conparrments?

Air intake / vent constructed as it is to avoid ingesting water in rough conditions. No scoops that you'd typically find on a Skater hatch.

We did not want to mount the radar in front of the windshield incase we go through a wave. So we had to build something behind the windshield but high enough for the radar to see over the windshield. So we decided with some cues from Carnival cruise lines to make a shark fin on the back that would hold the radar and be our air intake and exhaust. By having the air intake up high and in the center it will keep it from getting water if we are taking waves over the side. And what those other guys said.

The boat is not done yet but the West Michigan Offshore Powerboat Club was having a street party at a local fair that was 30 miles away so we loaded my boat on the trailer to take down there and have on display.

On the way home from the street party I stopped by a truck stop and weighed the trailer with the boat on it. The steer axle is the foot from the jack, the drive axle is the front two axles, the trailer axle is the back two axles. I had raised it off the pintle on the truck so the tongue weight is a little higher then it actually is and the front pair and back pair of axles would probably be closer if I had put the trailer level.
