Seven Marine vs Verado

Seven Marine vs Verado
Anyone done the comparison research between the 400r and the 557? I get that the 557 is nearly 400 lbs heavier which could greatly affect the cg of a high performance cat. I also get that they have not exactly been marketed towards the high perf cat sector but what I don't get is why? What is the opinion of the OSO brain trust as far as hanging a couple of these on the back of say a 28 or 29 cat? Anybody know the difference in price?

A 400r and a 627 have the same power to weight ratio. If the horsepower adds up to roughly thr same the verados are faster I think due to the verados higher RPM range.
Cost would push you to 400s everytime, you've got to want the seven and pay a big premium. I do prefer the look of twins and fewer outboards. Most boats sporting 4-5 verados don't look great imo.

What are the true reliability numbers for the 557? IMO (strictly an opinion here & just an observation)The 557's are a novelty. I live in south Florida and 99% of everything is an outboard now. That being said, I have seen 557's once up here in Delray and twice in Miami. Every time I have seen them they were on a midnight express and I think the guy in Manalapan has them on a Mystic CC.
That being said most of the hardcore guys with Invincible, Yellowfin, Everglades & Intrepid, etc with nice 36-42 CC's around here rave about Yamahas for the multiple weekly trip to Bahamas with second place going to Verado 300 & 350's. Those guys swap outboards like underwear every 2-3 years.

Why do they swap so much? Don't these things run like a million hours and never need any maintenance and gold nuggets falls out of the exhaust?

Because they have 800-1000 hours on them in a year and a half. We dont have winter, we run all year around and a lot of these guys fish 3-4 days a week. Its not a hobby down here guys, its a lifestyle.
My neighbor has a 34 Yellowfin and goes to the Bahamas literally every Saturday at 5am and comes back Sunday at 5pm.
