Hydro Hoist and Cafe Racer question...
I just bought a used Hydro Hoist and the previous owner does not kow the capacity of the lift. There are no markings on it to determine what it's capacity is...He claims he had a 32 Baja that weighed 10,500 lbs and the lift had no problem with it.
The 2 outer tubes of the lift are 23' long by 24" diameter.
The 2 inner tubes are 18' long by 24" diameter.
I think the Cafe weighs around 10,500 lbs---is this correct and do you guys think this lift will lift my boat?

Personal experience with Hydro-hoist sez:
3 each 16 foot x 24" diameter is rated for 7000#
2 each 24 foot x 32" diameter is rated at 11,000#
That's rated #'s
24" x 16 foot= 2,333 # per tank
32" x 24 foot= 5,000# per tank.
I would say it will lift the boat, BUT what size channel is used on the lift??? If it is not at least 5" channel then that lift is a user modified 3,000#- #6,000 lift by adding tanks. That is not recommended by Hydro-hoist. They will not do it. The frame is not of sufficient strength to support that load safely.
I would not even sell my old lift to a friend that wanted it to put a 29' Fountain on for that reason. He was mad at me for awhile but thought about it for a while and considered the potential damage to be done to his boat. Good luck with your though!!

I know a guy that replaced the motors on a 12,000# 4 post lift so the motors wouldn't stall lifting his triple engine 45' Sonic. I always cringe when he lifts the boat, espcially when he has 8 people on board with full tanks of gas.

Thanks for the help guys.
I am guessing on the weight of the boat...I haven't had it weighed. I honestly think it weighs less, but would like to err on the side of caution here...
As far as the the lift goes, it doesn't look to modified in any way...and the channel is 4" galvanized steel.
BF, I don't understand:
3 each 16 foot x 24" diameter is rated for 7000#
2 each 24 foot x 32" diameter is rated at 11,000#
Are you referring to the number of tubes?

Correct. According to Hydro-hoist which is built about 12 miles from here, a maximun of 3 tubes are to be used on the smaller frame (which you have!!) What is the width of the dock where this is installed? Mine is in a 13' slip and I don't know if a 4th tank would have fit there, but obviously it would. If the Hydro hoist people up there did in fact assemble that dock, it was not engineered by Hydro-hoist but did use their parts!! Seriously though, all that on 4" channel....WOW!! My 312 Fastech dry weight is 8050# plus fuel, oil,etc & etc added I figure 9500# on the lift.....5" channel minimum. The vertical supports are also heavier than the smaller lift. Just check out www.hydrohoist.com and ask the experts about your lift!!

Cigarette use to publish the weight of 9,400 lbs for the Cafe', and 9,800 for the Top Gun. There was insider talk that those numbers where purposely conservative though so you might not be far off.

Thanks for the info...after further review, I don't think this unit was made by Hydro Hoist...do you guys know of any other mfrs of hydro hoists?
On mine, there are two channels which support the 4 tubes and then vertical channel with cradles that the tubes sit in...mebee it's an older model than what is on Hydro Hoist's website...
