540 hp500 timing issue
540 Bulldog timing issue
when timing the motor it seems to jump around. Is there anything special that needs to be done when timing?
I have a 540bulldog carb HP500,
ICM module 840130-4
Can I switch to the new 840130-5 updated ICM ? is this a better timing curve?

Depending on the year of your engine it may have the Thunderbolt V ignition. If this is the case there is a short wire coming out of the dist. that needs to be grounded when you set the timing. This puts the system in base timing mode. If it is not grounded then the ignition is constantly searching for and adjusting the timing according to load etc.
Hope this helps.

i had a similar issue. Swapping to Daytona sensors ignitions. My issues is the preset curve in the module really messes with the idle. At 900 in neutral it's one number then dropping into gear lowers timing which lowers the idle which lowers timing and it's become a pain. Just a thought.
