It still won't be the same Joe, just like motocross/supercross isn't the same as it was in the 2 stroke days. There's nothing like the sound/smell of high rpm, racing 2 stroke engines! It doesn't effect any of us here in the U.S. anyways, as I doubt we'll ever see any of these motors - they'll only be on the F1 boats over across the pond. Maybe Shaun will post on here to tell us of Mercury's plans for these new engines. It would be awesome to see our Champ Boat Series return here in the U.S. as a result of these new motors, but I highly doubt that is going to happen.

They have the motors over driven to 9600rpm prop speed too!

The Seattle Kingdome full of blue smoke with McGrath battling Emig and Ryno...... heaven. But I am a fan of the new 4stroke outboards just to keep this thread on track.

I agree with you on both counts........but if I'm going to be standing on shore watching an F1 race, give me the pissed-off sound of a bunch of 2 strokes screaming over the low howl of small displacement 4 strokes turning less rpm.

Raceline video on these on Youtube. And they mention with the torque they produce it allowed them to over drive the lower to maintain propshaft speed.
But otherwise I'm with the You MFr's need 2 strokes crowd.

The pitch of a 2.5 will never be replaced. My old 28 Skater originally had them and they sounded amazing.

Have you heard these new 4 strokes? The new 360 ROS has open exhaust. I hardly call 4.6L a small 4 stroke. Even Nascar uses small block 5.8L and listen how they sound. I have been a fan of the Mercury two stroke for a very long time. What I am not a fan of is the smoke, the very high maintenance and adding oil all the time. I am one person who is glad the two stroke if done. Look what the new Mercury O/B's have done for the boat industry. O/B cat and CC's are all the rage now because of these new engines.

two strokes were the coolest engines ever. Look at motorcycles. The 500 gp bikes were the coolest
so merc is using a 4.6L to replace a 2.5L 2t. Weak af. It’s a race boat they are supposed to be high maint

Would be nice if we can put a 450R powerhead on this 400 ROS motor

The prop-speed of the older motors is matched on the new V8 motor by using 4 interchangeable "overdrive" gearsets.
