Since you mentioned a 280 Velocity, I will respond.
I bought my 2002 280 back in 2012, my first boat. It has a 496 with just about 500hrs on it. From what you are looking for I think it would do a good job. I cruise at 48ish mph at 3500rpm. Boat gets very good gas mileage (for a boat). I personally don't want twins. I have never broken down (I'm very meticulous with maintanance). I have sea tow if needed (never used). Single engine is much easier to work on, lower maintenance and easier to tow.
I also have A/C which I have never seen on a small Velocity or any other 28ft go fast boat.
I prefer the newer models, (I think 2002 and up). They have a more modern fabric in the cabin, mine has the ultra leather. I slept on it with my son a few times on the anchor, slept like a baby![Smilie](/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
If you have any Velocity questions I would be happy to answer them the best I can.

A 26 or 28 Zx Donzi would be a great fit. The 26 will be a single big block and the 28 is twin small blocks. Both boats have huge cockpits and v-berths for their size and run like a much bigger boat. Early 2000's can be had in the low $30s.

I'm partial to Formula, but, this one caught my eye. I know nothing except it is listed on C/L and the boat is really about 28-29' in reality w/o swim step..
Good luck with the search

The boathouse is open on both ends. The roof of the house is 30' from tip of the eave to tip of the eave. I like how most suggestions are to spend ALL of the money and also to get the MAXIMUM size boat that will fit.
How's the engine maintenance access on these boats ya'll are recommending? Can you even replace manifolds on twins without pulling the engines? What about replacing a water pump? I've heard horror stories like "you have to pull the engine to replace the starter". I saw a boat where the engine was 1" from the back seat and thought that was retarded. You have to remove the damn bench to replace the water pump and likely the alternator too. What's worse, to remove the bench you have to remove the grab rails on the gunwales AND remove the battery switch because it's inside the bench. Maintenance access is one of the main reasons I was thinking SBC instead of BBC, that and weight on my poor boat lift.
Definitely digging that 280 velocity.

Those twin engine 28 Donzi's for sale seem like a great deal. Seems like a lot of them for sale in the $30K mark. They made single engine 28 Donzi's and a mid-cabin 28 Donzi as well, one of which is in Louisiana (craigslist)https://lafayette.craigslist.org/bod...734687616.html he wants too much for it, but it is a bit of a unicorn with the single engine open bow, probably a dog out of the hole tho . At least the twin small block boats have a bit more room in between the engines, still a pain to work on tho.

We live And leave slidell for Tickfaw. Depending on hassle, you might as well trailer to at least here. We have come back across lake at night more times than not where the Lake is 6ft! Not to mention, you would have to fill up here anyway or as soon as you get to manchac bc you would be on fumes.
Good luck!
