They limit it to around 75 boats, can't remember exactly, but three years ago when we did it it was full. Not full anymore?

My wife and I spent a night at the island with the 34 SCARAB and I didn't have any problem with depth.
do they still have the timed showers?

One of the tricks the wife and I figured out if you don’t want to be in the middle of the rowdies at the main docs at PIB you can go to the marina at middle bass It is only a few years old and classy!

Marins monitor ship to shore and will have crew waiting on you to tend lines.
Multiple, and nice restrooms.
Sidewalks, just a beautiful facility.

And a half mile walk is the sunny s shuttle/ferry which will take you to PIB for $4.

So you can party with the locals and then jump back on the Sony s to the quiet and solitude of your boat at middle bass. We’ve done it numerous times and it’s big fun.

We did that to run over to PIB for Christmas in July and it was mass insanity!
Couldn’t get into any of the bars.
People everywhere and heard the next morning that someone got knifed in a fight at one of the bars.

Back ck at Middle Bass, JF walleyes across the street from marina is a way cool joint.
Basically A quarter million Dollar renovation several years back which includes outdoor patio with tables and chairs and an adult wading pool with waterfalls and a cave!

They also rent golf carts and bicycles.

School House Bay, just to the north of harbor entrance is a perfect place for a day on the hook.

The waters between middle and north bass are beautiful and see zero traffic.

Make sure and use your charts/gps though as they’re are a couple of boat eating shoals in that area.

we were talking last weekend and want to do another trip next summer and explore some of the other uninhabited, more northern, Canadian islands.
Again gone up there all my life and only been on for five of the many islands.

Middle island which is the first Canadian island and uninhabited is rumored to have the ruins of a speakeasy from the prohibition era from one of the famous gangster/Bootloggers.
It was a stopover point when smuggling booze from the Canadian shoreline to our side.

I’ve been on the island once and didn’t make it through the thick outer perimeter to do any real exploring.

those of us in the area are spoiled and lucky to have the western basin of Lake Erie so near.
We spent nine years boating the Florida intercoastal and keys and have shocked many of my friends when stating my choice of perfect weekend at any of the above I choose the Erie islands.

Tons and tons to explore, totally escape civilization if you want, explore the many shipwrecks on the bottom, Canadian culture on their side of the lake, a gorgeous winery on Pelee, bonfires on the beach, sunset, sunrise on the hook, just don’t get much better than that fellars.

And of coarse the party of PIB. Boats n people everywhere!

Spent one Fourth of July night on the hook off the beach at Pelee Island years ago and was gifted with the scene of simultaneous fireworks displays from the mainland, three different islands, all the while mother nature had a furious thunderstorm going on the horizon behind the fireworks displays as to show who is boss.
i think I counted 8 displays And decided I was forever ruined for future fireworks displays.

Great post! So many points you made that I agree with. My parents to would stay at Middle Bass on the gun to stay away from the rowdy public docks and take the Sunny S.... They were much older so it made sense to me even though I enjoyed B-Dock.. I agree with your point on needing navigation maps running through between Middle and North Bass... We actually docked at that "Hidden" marina on Middle bass once. We were visiting a friend that had a place on the island and he got us a space. Its a cool little private marina. Seeing it was the first time my buddy saw our new to us Gun I wanted to do the traditional fly by... Luckily my better self said no, Looking later there was a shoal or underwater rock wall right where I would have run right thru. Just north of that marina... Gotta love better judgement... I to agree with the comment of some of the best boating is there... So many memories and fun times up there. For all the years spent it NEVER got boring. Still love getting back.... Last time was last year... Towed the 21 Scout back and spent a week in Sandusky. Hit the point with the kids for two days but spent the other 5 on the boat. The last day was our trip to the bay. Forecast the day before was 1' or less...... LOL, They screwed that one up... I swear it was 3 to 4's... We got to Kelleys and it wasnt to bad. Decided to keep going. Between Kelley's and Ballast it got rough be we kept working at it. Tried following a 46' Sea Ray in but finally had to pass. Eventhough it was rough, He still was going to sloooooow to follow in the wake... Finally landed and docked at the Boardwalk. Spend the day on the Island, A hurricane and Lobster (Sea gull) bisque at boardwalk. A beer at Ray's Real Bar. Gift shops. and that damn carousal... Right when we left I was talking to an old timer on a big Sea Ray. He was worried for us leaving but we had to leave... Water between South Bass and Kelleys was rougher then on the way in. Was heading into the see on that leg. Good thing was the kids did fall asleep. Got to Kelleys and hugged the shoreline.. Then back out to some bigger water. By the time we got bast the MeanStreak the water layed down and we rolled back into Vention. Pulling in I got to see my bud Timmy, aka FF. He look rather amuzed hearing we where out in the rough... Got tied up hit the bathroom and the kids finaly woke up. All in all. Just a normal day for those in that area. For me, a lifetime memory.... Love that place...

We always go to PIB on weekdays when we can have a little elbow room and the Boardwalk always has slips available during the week. They also have the "dock 'n dine" package.

This stuff should be on travel websites. Accurate descriptions and true knowledge from someone who knows the place properly rather than a bloke critiquing his vacation.
Some great destinations there, I've always underestimated your inland waterways.......until now.

Yep.
Early Spring, late fall it’s a different island.

I came up last yr for the vintage British car races on the airport.
An absolute hoot.

The Mrs surprised me this weekend and rented us a house on Kelly’s.

Took the ferry over last night. Great lil house on an acre w/deer in the yard when we pulled up.

Woke to 40* and 15 - 20 mph winds this morning.
Youd have to want it to bring the boat over.

BTW, for those coming over for the Clam Bake at the casino, wind and 2-4’s out of the SW.
My friends wife that joined us at Middle Bass says we’ve become “fair weather ***gots” in our old age 😂
I’ve waken to snow on the boat more than once.

This morning though, at 60, I used the remote start for the wife’s Jeep, from our warm kitchen, so it’s watm to take her to breakfast/screwdrivers.

Bonz, you and I need an evening of beers and story telling.

I tell everyone that will listen that I can’t imagine a more magical childhood than what I had and it sounds as though you might be able to match me, story for story.

Some perspective for those that haven’t been here.

Ck out East Sister Island.

To my knowledge, uninhabited and asking to be explored next summer.

Has anyone gone to Cedar Point by boat? Looks like they have top notch facilities and boaters get into the park an hour early!
