You & Jupiter are both right, and both a little wrong at the same time.
I was one of the people posting. There are in fact TWO companies left willing to touch that policy. Yes, the rates are high, and they will only write a policy that covers $.40/$1.00 of what the boat “should be” worth if you wanted/needed to replace it.
I have insurance to protect against people, not equipment.
I also carry a considerable amount of insurance of all different types for business (products liability, property, land and equipment, licenses, the list goes on). Those companies wanted no part of any insurance in an old performance boat, none.
so it’s both a price thing and the fact they will just not write a policy for a boat of that vintage. Mine doesn’t have much original wood left in it, didn’t matter to them that the boat is almost all new as it says 1990 on the title, that’s all that matters.
look how many 2005 outerlimits are up for sale. Going to be tough to cover those in 2-3 years.

You're dead on & is exactly what I went thru getting mine re-insured after foremost sent me a 100% increase in 2 years. Foremost will not touch older boats unless grandfathered in & you will be paying a PREMIUM. My quotes were higher for mine to be insured at $75K than friends were getting for mid late 2000's Cigs for $250k. Makes ZERO sense.

I’m sure the history of that specific boat is worth as much as his desire for an Apache. Good buy for someone with a fleet of cool stuff already

Seller is going to have to make a decision shortly. He can dump the reserve and in most cases that spurs more bidding. BAT makes the sale happen in a week-10 days, not a month or year. So the boat might pull more money on the open market listed with a broker, it may take years to get it. If the reserve is 500K, he might drop it and get the bids into the low to mid 400's very quickly. At 380K I can't see the boat selling. That is crazy money for the other 41 Apaches but not #1
