FPC Bahamas run
Planning next years adventures. Who has done the FPC Bahamas run, or just went over on their own. Curious which is the better time to go, June or August, as far as making the cross and the weather?

FPC does great events for the Bahamas. I've been with FPC and I've gone solo. Pick your trip based on your time available. FPC Bimini is an awesome weekend trip, close (50 miles) from Ft Lauderdale and very easy/plenty to see. Stu does an extended trip to Abaco/Exumas and it is also great but you need a week or more. Covid made the Bahamas a hassle and it is expensive ($150 entry fee/12% vat tax on everything that is already overpriced). But you should do a poker run for sure!

Thanks for the info guys. So August is probably the better month, than June?
I figured it wouldnt be cheap, but what is anymore, thats boating related. Its on my bucket list, so F'it, gotta plan to do it.
I've watched probably all the FPC vids and also the howe2live vids, or just about any other boat related vid on youtube.
Tank, I heard you were gonna trailer the cafe out, to do the Bahamas run too....

I’ve been over by boat many times over the past 30 years, starting first with Bimini and ultimately ended up buying practically the cheapest house ever sold in the Abacos on Guana Cay six yrs ago. While we probably won’t ever take our current OSO boat, a 28 Cary Sportsman, we plan to run our 29 Blackfin outboard back over next summer, as it resided there prior to hurricane Dorian. As for what month, as mentioned prior, odds are better for calmer water in August. But it’s always a good time, and at a good clip of speed, a surprisingly short run to Bimini. To the Abacos it’s naturally a bit longer, being 150-220 miles depending on your ultimate destination among many habitable islands, and of course where you leave from.
The whole Covid deal has indeed made things more challenging, as we experienced several wks ago. The current protocol requires a negative covid within 5 days of entering/clearing, and then the US requires a negative test within 3 days of returning, regardless of your vaccination status. However, if vaccinated, only a Rapid test is required, otherwise a PCR test. Re-entry to US requires a Rapid test. We used the pre-purchased online-participation Abbott test kit. Prior trip this past May required us to go to a clinic on a neighboring island and get a $100 test, after waiting in line for an hour, and we went early. Hopefully by next summer these restrictions will have eased.
