Default Cant decide on exhaust tips and mufflers. Twin 496HO

Bought a 32 Sunsation Dominator with twin 496HO's and straight through exhaust. Bought the boat and sent it right to Wayne at Sunsation to have some repairs done. I have never seen the boat in person LoL but did have a survey.

Engines and drives are ready to go back in and I have to decide on exhaust. We do intend on staying overnight occasionally and often come into our private residential boat ramp later at night.
I do not know if I will LOVE this boat so I am not really excited about the cost of adding a Captains Call type system.

What is the quietest muffler that wont pull RPM from a stock 496HO? It seems every setup I look at I find a post here from someone saying it killed 200rpm. I was almost ready to pull the trigger on Hardin XPM525's and found where someone said they lost 200 rpm which is a lot of money to spend for the same results as a slip baffle.

What I 'think" would prob fit my needs is basic straight tips with removable slip ins for fun runs etc. Adding downturns would be great but I am not sure if I can due to my external steering setup. This is why I liked the XPM525's as they have a small downturn that looks like it might be right at my waterline.

Waterline on the boat is right about half way on the Mercruiser decals so a very small downturn might work.

The existing setup just has fiberglass tubes running through rubber "gaskets" at the transom.

Corsa quick and quiet is a full time through hull and through hub setup (no moving parts) that has great flow because the 3 places the exhaust can go but is quiet especially when paired to the corsa muffler tips

I would run the boat for a season and then decide if you really want to bother. Wet exhaust systems are pretty quiet and you will get use to it quickly. I removed my captains call because I got tired of dealing with issues. We use to come in late all the time to my neighborhood and as long as you're idling and not being an ass, its not really that loud.....

Gibson big block clamp-ons work very well, and is about the quietest option without losing HP. I’ve installed them on 525/540/565’s with no speed loss.

They do have a deep rumble without the sharp exhaust crack. Also, they come with documentation stating they meet the 89 dB sound requirements.

496HOs are not terribly egregious in the sound department. With that solid platform, it won't be too loud in the boat. You might just look into a rubber 4" elbow from a semi truck exhaust to give downturns a shot before you have something fabbed up.

Our 32 Sunsation came with Custom Marine air actuated mufflers from the factory and no captains call. I was told to never run with them closed and honestly they make very little difference at idle when they are closed I really never use them. https://teaguecustommarine.com/aft-f...cer-4-clamp-on

Previous post is correct the 496 is not loud at idle compared to 525's.

I have the Gibsons as well and I idle a lot down long rivers. They do make a big difference and I have not been able to notice any difference in speed. I do make a lot more noise than stock 496's even with wet exhaust.
