A couple weeks ago we went from Sandusky to PIB in some nasty weather in my 19' Yamaha ... my buddy with with a 48 EC was getting air that day .
I swear the 19 is better in that I can go in between the waves and it`s like a roller coaster instead of trying to span them and get beat up.
I mean we were all soaked by the end but it was a fun time.
Kelleys island, pib, the sandbar etc etc .. lots to do there. The ride to Lake St claire was 50 miles but we decided next time for that .

The run down the Detroit River to Lake Erie from Lake St. Clair is a good time with lots of interesting boat traffic and shoreline scenery. Do not drink adult beverages while operating in the Canadian waters.

25 or so yrs ago, when I bought my first 24’ Sonic, a buddy and I took it to a party in the the Crystal River, in the middle of the Detroit River.

One of the large boat trailer mfgs (Custom Haul??) used to host the party every Memorial or Labor Day.

The river was in the s.end of and island in the middle of the Detroit!
So clear you could see your anchor 10’ down!

The host, chartered 3 large barges and anchored them in the entrance to Crystal River.

One for the Canadian Customs to operate they’re drive through processing!

Another one held a huge diesel generator.
It was rafted off the 3rd that had lights and a PA system that the generator powered.

It was the dance floor!
Had bands playing all weekend, hundreds of drunk people dancing, a constant flow of dinghies in/out!

We got in Friday evening and were one of 4 or 5 boats.
We rafted off of (against my better judgment) a rotted out wood cruiser that was barely afloat!

They had a trash bag duct taped around the bow, just over water line, covering an opening from a recent head on collision!

left my dive knife on the helm of the Sonic all night, just in case she went down, so we could cut our dock lines!

Woke up Sat to at least 50 more boats.

By dusk there had to be 200+ boats of all sizes!

They/we, all backed into each other w/anchors off our bows.
Formed a giant horseshoe.

A weekend of groups across your swim platform, stop for beers and chat etc.

Was eerie hanging out on our boats, in crystal clear water and seeing smoke stacks of freighters passing behind the trees in both sides of us!

On a Sat night they stood up an old wood cruiser on the beach and burned it!

One of the most amazing things I’ve ever done by boat!

The lower Detroit River is really beautiful. If you take the old channel you go by the old Boblo Island dock and can see ruins of Boblo. They are finally making decent progress on the new international bridge.

While it was in its hay day.

The OPP's (Ontario Provincial Police) put an end to those type Crystal Bay parties about 20-25 years ago, you may have attended the last one ! Long before we moved north. Anyone headed up or down the river not knowing it well there is some very thin water at the Middle Grounds between Detroit and Belle Isle also don't go outside the man made channels at the south end unless you know the depths.
