Was anyone else in Key West about 6 yrs ago when the 30' Chris Cat was run over by a 46 Skater right infront of the outer mole?
The tip (pointy end) of the Six Drive cought one of the guys in the rear base of his helmet. His head slammed into the dash & the helmet was ripped off. In the middle of the flying fiberglass & spray, everyone saw the helmet flying through the air & feared the worst.
Fortunately, although badly injured, he made a full recovery.
p.s. the boat didn't make out as well. During the trauma rescue, the boat sank beneath them. Nose up, they dragged it to a sandy spot near the pier where it was later recovered.

I actually have home video & the espn2 tape of the race showing the crash. It happend 50' in front of us & everyone on the pier.
The skeg mark split the transom of the receiving boat, then ran up the right side hatch & ripped a V in the high back drivers seat head rest, then continued down the deck.
I can't remember the name of the small cat, but the the 46 Skater was "Zero Defect" driven by Laith Farron. A big buck dads money team
