Sorta' strange how great and wonderful Talon and Maelstrom are, when offshore racing, shootouts and poker runs have been dominated across the country from the '90s to current by nothing but Skaters, MTIs, Mystics and DW outboards.

Old school accolades make it hard for some to accept fact.

Not busting your balls but since DCB does not dominate offshore racing and shootouts does that make DCB less great and or less wonderful like a Talon cat?

You get my point. DCB builds beautiful boats too that perform great. I have always been a Skater fan/enthusiast but a DCB is nice, and the eyes of thread starter Talon is great boat.

I am neither for or against Talon or Maelstrom but I certainly appreciate the enthusiasm in this thread that has been presented.

Thumbs up Apache Michael Peters Design

Apache similar to the Talon. The Labatts Apache Cat later campaigned as Warpaint was a great running boat that captured US1. Really guessing the Talon had been influenced. All cats were influenced by others even some Skaters.

This first pic didn’t end well

Default 139.8 World Record Holder Unofficial

The sponsons are narrow on the 37, being that it is a centerpod boat (regardless of whether or not it has been removed), and that would place those inner motor gearcases into the tunnel water. Unlike the triple engine setup that runs a pod to break the water coming to the gearcase, the quad setup doesn't have that option. I bet the owner has nothing but problems with those center motor gearcases and motor mounts. The CG of that setup would be a concern to me as well.

Bobthebuilder sent me the name and contact info of the owner of this Talon 37. Rob Hamilton took time out of his busy day to shed light on his incredible machine. Originally rigged with triple Omc v8s which morfed to 2.5s then quad 300x and now quad 400Rs, the Talon set an unofficial world speed record for an offshore outboard powerboat of 139.8 mph! (Fresh Water at 500ft elevation) This eclipses Mike Drurys long standing official record of 131.088 mph. Rob stated the Talon is rock solid stable at all speeds and has minimal equipment failure. Will there be an official shootout run to silence the naysayers? Only Mr Hamilton can answer that question. Challengers proceed with caution: I believe there is much more there that will up the ante.

Also I would like to edit my previous post #69 which names top high performance rigging gurus and add Raymond and Peter Roberts of Double R Performance who made this monster live! Ding Hao! 🤙

I hope you realize that posting 139mph for a 37' cat with quad 400Rs (1600 total hp - if they're even stock, w/ tunes they are 430-440hp apiece), is very unimpressive. It is well documented through numerous online posts that there are several 36' - 39' outboard cats w/ twin 450Rs (900 total hp) running in the mid 130s. The DW 36, DCB M37 and MTI 390X all are running in the mid 130s w/ 900 total hp vs the 37 Talon only running a few mph faster w/ 700+ hp more. I understand you have heartfelt adoration for the Talon 37, but to keep comparing it (and even saying it is superior) to the current technology cats is truly insane.

Skater30, don’t want to derail the thread but you seem to know a ton about Skaters and I’ve been wondering for awhile what the plan of succession is at Skater or who is basically the number two man in the company? I’ve never really heard any other names mentioned with the company except for Peter and it seems like if it doesn’t go through him, it doesn’t go at all lol

Sorry for the late answer: We sold the boat in 2007.

Boat was supposed to be inaugurated at a party where President Putin was also invited. Putin was there, the boat wasn't as we had trouble with the shipping company... :-)
