Talon 37 Hustler IMPRESSIVE!!

I have owned this Talon for a few years now. It is a 377 cut down to 36, No center pod. It does have a narrow short pod towards the rear to protect the center engine on this triple outboard setup. I have owned a number of Skaters and a 39 MTI. The Talon has almost no porpoise but is not as fast top end as the Skaters and MTI. The reason is the hull does have nearly the compression in the tunnel like the other cats. What the boat does do very well is run in rough water as good as any boat I have owned. The cool factor of the triple O/B on my boat gets a lot of attention at the docks and on the water. I am currently re-rigging with Mercury triple 300R four stroke V8's. Should be done in a few weeks.

It was the Nina Ross from Texas. No clue what or who that is. I bought it with triple 280 offshores and changed it out to triple 300x for a little more speed and lot more reliability. The center of gravity did change with the heavier 300X engines. I had to move the batteries from midship by the cockpit 10 feet forward. The boat also has a ballast tank I can fill and dump on the fly for an even better rough water ride. I am right now installing triple Mercury 300r outboards. Nearly the same weight as the 300x with more torque and better fuel milage.
I imagine quad heavy 400R outboards would be an issue on a 377. I agree swinging the props in the open tunnel is also a problem for the lower units,

Very Cool!
Absolutely awesome post Bob! Thanks. Is it possible to get some feedback on how this incredible machine runs, top speed, handling and setup challenges. It would be great to get the REAL skinny.
Multi engine, especially triples plus, will eat gearcases. A good PM program works in the race world in my experience with triples and quad setups. Also back in the day the major quotient was how good is the throttleman.

To give an idea of how the center pod helps on a triple setup. You can see the pod protects the lower unit. The bullet is about one inch below the pod and really helps. This is my third triple outboard cat and all had the pods that are about 6-10' long in the tunnel. I have never had an issue with a center lower. My 300X are for sale and ready to hang new power.

Cool deal, I knew I knew the boat. Kenny Milstead owned it, super cool back then, glad to see she is still in great shape!

Brad, switching to DTS controls? It would really clean up the transom and is soooo much smoother to operate. Shifting is butter compared to the 3.0 Sportmaster clunk.
