Turbine boats
Does anyone have turbine boats built anymore or have the Merc 1550 and 1750 engines made them obsolete? I haven’t really seen many big name boats being made with turbines compared to how many were popping up 10 years ago

So be fair, I don't think I've ever seen a boat with either the 1650 or 1750 in it.
Otherwise.... What Boost said.
Thanks. Brad.

I'm certain the reason you don't see them being built any more is because so many of them burnt to the waterline over the years. And seeing as they are uninsurable, guys figured investing a million+ dollars into something that has a 50/50 chance of burning down with no insurance probably wasn't a good idea. Any insurance policy written on a turbine boat only covers the boat/occupants when the turbines are not running. The second the fire is lit in the hot section, there is no longer coverage. Undoubtedly the Merc 1350/1550 package helped put the nail in the coffin also, as the big cats can now have very respectable performance (170+) with insurable, warrantied power.

I'd have to presume that they're a pain in the ass for a pleasure boat...hot and loud and I'd imagine it's harder to find Jet-A at a marina than it is 91 octane for a 1350 powered rig.
With 1550, 1650, 1750 you're still going to need to bring your own race fuel along.
