Default Today's PSA: Don't Paint the inside of the oil pan.

I don't know why anyone would, but someone did.

I feel like I cheated death here - the pickup screen was 90% plugged up with paint, and the pickup screen itself was sucked up concave towards the pickup tube. This motor had 55-60 lbs oil pressure every time I ran it.

So, kids, don't do this.

DrFeelgood,

I have to wonder why anybody would ever feel the need to paint the inside of their oil pan to begin with. It's not like anybody is going to see it, and it ain't ever going to rust. Ain't nothing good coming from it.

Thanks. Brad.

Yep. 32 Sunsation Dominator that I bought in February. Not exactly the turn-key boating I was expecting.

That's the conversation I've been having all afternoon. All the questions, no answers.

If plumbed properly (my opinion) Through oil pump - plugged bypass valve - out block - quality oil filter - oil cooler - back in block - bearings - rest of engine. Would never know unless oil pick up was fully covered.

well now that the engine is out and oil pan off might as well bore and stroke it, since your in there, and the gimbles are probably tired so may as well pull them and rebuild them, since your in there. the bilge is probably dirty too and the wiring is old so may as well pull all that out and repaint the bilge, since your in there. and so it all begins. or at least it does with my projects, this is why I tell everyone "all my projects are so easy in my head" just going to do this and that and I will have it running again in a week or so. eight years later, well you know.
