Default Water pump to stat housing hose

I just researched this site for an answer and I think I have it but want to verify before ordering.
Because of that particular post I also now have more questions.
The first pic shows that someone cut the hose and extended it and Saber28 mentioned that if you don't like that look that the Tall deck Bulldog 500 uses a longer hose. I don't know if all of the Bulldog engines were tall deck so again, I want to verify before ordering.
Do I need to use that smaller hose at the top of the water pump to the intake? I see some with and some without.
Also I DID use a light coating of RTV for the thermostat housing to the intake and noticed on the other post that said that the gasket is used to "ground" the housing so the sending unit works. Crush washers in the gasket? Can't I just install the sending unit in one of the access holes on either side of the housing in the intake or is the the stat housing the best \ correct location? I think it was also asked why the bolts holding the housing to the intake wouldn't work for the ground. Thanks for your help.

a lot of steel and non painted hardware there for a boat man. at the very least get some good self etching primer and a can of phantom black.
stainless bolts a must as well.

That first pic is a random from the site. Mine is the last one where the hose does not reach.

Is the only way to make this work is to cut and extend the stock hose?

When we swapped out stock flat cast iron 454 truck intakes that are on the 7.4L's for Edelbrock RPM Air Gaps I'm pretty sure we ended up using a 525SC hose. This has been years ago so don't take that for the gospel but I do know a stock Merc hose for another mill worked. If you make an extension pipe make sure you lip both ends like a turbo charge pipe or you will have issues with them blowing apart. Ask how I know!

Did you buy 847677 or another part number?
This thread list that part number as being the longer one.
Longer hose from recirc pump to thermostat needed.

Just buy another standard hose and get a proper size hose coupling, brass or stainless,

GLENAMY, I saw your other post and that looks pretty good. Buying and adding the 2 together makes for a nice finished look. Not opposed to it, just want to know that a one piece hose is not available. Did you find a "barbed" fitting for that main hose? I looked at Hardin's site and only see up to 1".

If you missed it, that thread AllDodge linked the guy has the longer hose up against a framing square.
So get out a tape and see what distance you have from pump to thermostat housing, see if that one will suffice.
If you're wanting to have a one piece setup.
Part number in that thread also.
