DONZI 38ZR Upholstery
Hello everyone. I have a Donzi 2006 38ZR and the sun deck upholstery is starting to rip in areas. The upholstery is the original and it’s yellow in color. When you raise the engine cover you have the mirror looking plexiglass cover on the bottom side of the engine cover. Has anyone ever fixed their upholstery on that boat or know how you access the upholstery from the underside of the foam? Also, has anyone ever removed the plexiglass piece underneath? If so, is it taped on?
thanks so much everyone for any help

The plexiglass is glued on with a strong adhesive and siliconed around the outside. You’ll have to pull the plexiglass off, it’ll probably break into pieces in the process. Then you can get to the screw heads. There’s also a piece of coosa that’s basically a spacer that might break apart as you’re pulling the plexiglass off. Fun times with the boats during the off-season!

As mentioned, you need to remove the mirrored plexiglass and you will find the screws beneath it. My 2007 had a large sheet of plywood under the mirror. I ended up replacing it with a piece of pvc (not StarBoard) that had the same thickness. It's much lighter, you can both glue and use mechanical fasteners to secure the plexiglass and it does not succumb to the elements.

Both the original plexiglass and plywood were solely mechanically fastened so it was not a big deal. If there is any VHB tape or glue behind the plexiglass there is virtually no way of getting it off without cracking it and/or stripping the solid backing off the plexiglass, which ruins the mirror effect. I have replaced that mirror a few times for a variety of reasons and next time I am going look into using a sheet of stainless steel mirror -- that will solve a lot of headaches!
