Top fuel dragster facts
at full throttle it consumes 1.5 gall per sec, same rate as a 747 fully loaded but with 4 times the engery volume.
the supercharger take as much hp as a stock hemi.
at 3000 cfm of air being ramed in by the supercharger, the fuel mix
is compresed into a nearly solid form befor ignition. on the verge of hydraulic lock.
dual magnetos put out 44 amps
at a air fuel mixture of 1.7;1,the flame front of nitro mesures 7050 dregres
the spark plug electrode are totaly gone on each pass,at half track the engine is dieseling from compression plus the glow of exhaust valves at 2000degrees, the motor can only be shut of by turning of the fuel
the cranks shaft twist 20 dregrees by the end of a pass, thy have to offset grind the cam lobes to rephase the valve timming
launch is aroung 8 g:s
dragsters reach over 300 mailes per hour before you can read this sentence.
they reach 250 mph by half track
if every thing was paid for and the crew worked for free is cost 1000. per second to run

There was another good factoid about how many times the crankshaft rotates in a pass. I can't remember it and don't know how high they spin them but it was something like 60 times ?!?
Also I heard that from when they fire them to the end of the pass they burn close to 15 Galllons of fuel.

wow....
Cool info there Rob..where did you get it? im going to print it and show it to all my motorhead friends.....wow 8 g's.could that be right?....hows your insides?.....I thought i read somewhere that "Big Daddy " Don Garlits detached his retinas in his eyes or somethin like that from all those high G slow downs.....ive always been amazed with the power of a top fuel dragster /funny car... anything that can break the tires free at 200mph when the clutch comes in too hard is no joke......

Chris,
I wish I could remember it because it fools everyone, you think it should be more but think about it , the motor is running during a pass , what maybe 5 seconds ? Rpm's are measured in revolutions per minute .

8500 rpm @ 5 seconds
8500 revs * 1 minute * 5 seconds
____________________________ = (sec and minute units cancel each other)
1 minute * 60 sec
5*8500/60 revs = 708 revolutions
(still less than I'd have guessed)
