2003 APBA Offshore Circuit, the Next Generation of Race Fans.
New Chart-Topping Band Joins Donzi
On the 2003 APBA Offshore Circuit,
Aiming to Reach the Next Generation of Race Fans.
For Immediate Release:
Sarasota, FL February, 2003 - Donzi Marine, a subsidiary of American Marine Holdings, has announced it is forming an APBA Offshore partnership with the newest band to hit the pop charts, O-Town, for the 2003 offshore racing season.
At a press conference during the recent Miami International Boat Show, band members were on hand to throw their hats into the offshore racing ring and to show support for Donzi and their new O-Town/Audacity Racing factory 2 class 38 ZR.
Sporting the O-Town logo and a racy graphics package, a rendering of their new F2 was unveiled for the racing media and O-Town fans alike.
Lee Mills, Chairman and CEO of Offshore Worlds, introduced the sponsorship of the talented quintet stating, “O-Town’s participation with Donzi and the APBA Offshore represents just the tip of the iceberg. We will be offering many new and exciting programs such as the APBA Offshore concert series, more celebrity involvement, new racing venues, and much more. It’s going to be and exciting 2003 racing season.”
O-Town’s incredible rise to stardom was chronicled by the hit TV reality series, The Making of the Band. Over the course of three seasons, millions of fans watched the five talented performers come together and evolve into a pop music powerhouse. Ashley Parker Angel, Erik-Michael Estrada, Dan Miller, Trevor Penick and Jacob Underwood are the five singers who make up the band.
Members of the band gave a short speech at the Donzi booth during the Miami Boat Show, expressing their excitement over the upcoming season. But it was an expressive Dan Miller who summed up their feeling best when he said; “Our boat is going out there to kick some ass… if it’s OK to say that.”
Lee Kimmell, CEO and Chairman of American Marine Holdings, Donzi’s parent company, assured the young singer it was OK to say that, as Lee welcomed the group to the Donzi family. “As last years National Champions, Donzi remains committed to winning more than its share of races,” said Lee. “For the 2003 APBA circuit we’re upping the odds by adding a new boat into the Super Vee Light division.”
After being absent from the racing world for over 22 years, Donzi Marine finished the 2002 APBA Factory Class 2 circuit with the bragging rights of a National Champion and proof to the world that they still build the biggest, fastest best performing boats on the water today. The O-Town/Audacity Racing Team consists of driver Phil Semel , throttleman Joey Skrocki and race engineer Jason Borys.
Phil won the 1995 Super Boat International National Championships in the pro outboard class and was selected as “Rookie of the Year” in ’95 as well. Joey currently holds the second place title in the APBA F2 Pro-Series and was a former AMA Pro GP motorcycle racer. He is also the technology editor with his own column in a new major magazine, Extreme Boats Magazine.
“We are very excited to be a part of the Donzi racing family this year,” said Skrocki. “Not only are we excited about the new boat itself, we are thrilled to be part of the Donzi marketing machine that’s raising the visibility of this sport. Our goal is to be number one with our sponsors, number one with our promotional activities and number one across the finish line.”
According to Nick Miller, Donzi’s Vice President of Marketing, “It is very exciting to have a group like O-Town as a strategic partner for Team Donzi and the Audacity Racing Team. Not only does this add a dimension of celebrity endorsement, it makes the whole experience for the race fans more complete. O-Town is just the beginning. We are in negotiations with other celebrities which will raise the visibility of not only Donzi Marine, but also the APBA offshore and offshore powerboat racing, much like the auto racing world.”
