What does everyone think of the 1990-1996 Nissan 300ZX non-turbo? I will be spending less than 5k on the car, so it will have somewhere between 100,000-110,000 miles on it. I will be getting my license in April... Will be needing a car soon, want something somewhat fast, good gas mileage, looks cool and has potential when modified.
Any info is appreciated,
Tommy

Good cars,
but I think the insurance,
(being it's a sports car)
might be a ***** for you,
at you age

What would you think would fit the above categories and not kill me on insurance? I have a little list of some cars I like, (realistic list too!!) What would you all think of the insurance of these?
1990-1993 Celica All-Trac (4wd turbo Celica, 200hp)
1990-up Miatas ( I think high insurance, convertible 2 seat...)
Nissan 240sx Fastback (sell for around 3k, supposed to have good handling)
and of course I like the late model Mustang GT's, WS6 Trans-Ams, and Z28 Camaros but a V8 muscle car would kill me on gas and insurance.

Tommy,
All those listed are "sport" type
cars, insurance is not going to be good
on any of these.
Buy a truck

Take the 300ZX and swap in a warmed over Smallblock V-8!!!
Best of both worlds, until the rear blows or the body rots out of it!!! Just my 20 years of being an auto mechanic talking to each his own!!!

You should check with your ins. company, the 300 may not be as bad as you think because it is an older vehicle. It is also the best bang for the buck on your list. Like MODVPSST said, change the timing belt right away unless you have paperwork verifying that it was done within the last 20 or 30,000 miles. Stay away from the alltrack, fun car to drive but had lots of front end problems and the turbo is not that good on it.

240SX is a nice car. My brother in law has one with 190K miles on it; and it is still going. Handles like an 80s Vette; esp. with wider rims and nice tires. Go with Falken tires, cheap and great handling.
