Ooops!
I'm in the middle of replacing the cylinder head gasket on my Dodge diesel. I was removing a intake bolt when it slipped from my fingers and fell down a push rod hole. I grabbed a magnet and was able to grab something. I started to pull it out when it fell off. I heard the object strike sheetmetal and assume that it landed in the pan. The forward portion of the pan must be dry because it really rang. It's a 7 hour job to pull the pan. Guess what I'm doing today?

just go get a magnet that will fit into the drain plug hole and leave it there, the bolt will stay on the magnet. I have found all kind's of crap in oil pans that didn't belong there but wasn't the reason I was there.

Well that has to be one of the dumbest, stupidist, most idiotic, most rediculous, most assinine things I have ever heard of. Butter fingers!!! Geeeeeeezzzzzuuuussss!!!! Remind me to NOT let you into the engine compartment of anything I own. I can't believe you did that.
Oh, and say hi to your wife for me. O.K.? And tell her the cookies were good and the refund is really going to help.
And before anyone flies off the handle, I am just bustin on Tim. He would expect nothing else from me. Pull the oil pan drain plug, put a magnet in there, and don't worry about it. The chance that the bolt will get up into the crank or stuck in the pump (it can't get into the pump anyway, screen will prevent it) is really, really small.

Yea, I tried to fish it out through the drain plug. Came up empty handed. I'm going to try a couple more times, and see what I come up with. Argh!
Oh, by the way, Mike...
BITE ME!
Not only do you get a nice refund, BUT YOU GET TO EAT MY COOKIES
