GIVE KIDS THE WORLD" Mayor Clayton to lead St. Cloud Florida rotary club Grand Boat Parade
Sunday, March 16, 2003
Known throughout the world, "Give Kids the World" in Kissimmee Florida, will send the loveable character rabbit known as Mayor Clayton to lead the St. Cloud Rotary Club Grand Boat Parade scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 10:00 a.m.
The parade will form on Dakota Avenue. It will proceed east on Lake Shore Boulevard
by beautiful East Lake Tohopekaliga, then turn south on Florida Avenue where it will disperse. Spectators will have an excellent view of the parade along the shore of the lake.
Mayor Clayton is well known and loved by over 56,000 children from around the world who have experienced a life threatening illness and have had the opportunity to enjoy the wish of visiting major attractions in central Florida by staying at Give Kids the World Village. The Mayor will lead the parade riding in his Claytonmobile.
Mayor Clayton appeared every night in the Macy's Parade held at Universal Studios Florida this year. The highlight of the Mayor's parade year was his debut in the New Year's Day Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California. The "Village of Hope" float funded primarily through volunteer and corporate efforts was designed with over 80,000 roses. Fifty-six thousand roses were placed in aqua vials bearing the name of a wish child who had attended the village since its inception in 1986.
The parade entry received the Tournament Special Award given to floats displaying exceptional merit. The Tournament of Roses parade committee has invited Mayor Clayton to appear in the parade again on New Year's Day 2004.
In addition to Mayor Clayton the Grand Boat Parade will feature the Osceola County Teacher of the Year, winners of the Miss Silver Spurs and Little Miss Silver Spurs contest, members of the city council, units from the Bahia Shrine of Orlando, BMX riders, scouts, antique cars, APBA-Offshore racing boats, police, fire and emergency rescue units.
For further information about the parade please contact Mr. Cleve Grissom at 407-891-7833 or Charles Green at 407-892-7355.
