1994 sea ray sunsport 31ss
HELLO, SINCE I'M NEW TO OFFSHOREONLY.COM I'LL HAVE TO SAY THIS WEBSITE REALLY KICKS BUTT. CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH SOME QUESTIONS WITH MY BOAT? I WANT A LITTLE MORE SPEED OUT OF THIS BOAT I REALIZE THIS IS A FAMILY DAYCRUISER AND YOU CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH. MY 94 SEA RAY HAS TWIN 7.4L WITH BRAVO DRIVES IT HAS NO MODS WHAT SO EVER. NOT EVEN THREW HULL EXHAUST. THE BOAT RUNS ABOUT 53 MPH I WOULD LIKE TO SEE 60 WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?? LAST HOW DOES EVERYBODY FEEL ABOUT PEOPLE WITH BOATS LIKE MINE ENTERING POKER RUNS I FEEL ALITTLE FUNNY DOING SO BECAUSE MY BOAT IS SO MUCH SLOWER!! I WOULD LIKE TO GET A TRUE OFFSHORE BOAT AGAIN BUT I'M TRYING TO LET MY LITTLE ONES BREAK INTO BOATING WITHOUT BEING SCARED. TAKING ONE FOR THE FAMILY I GUESS. THANKS FOR THE REPLY!!

From what I understand, the Sunsports were decent hulls, not great, but decent. Picking up 7 or so mph is going to take horsepower, and horsepower = money. It may be better to just trade up to a faster boat rather than sink dollars into the Searay - you almost certainly will not get that money out of it when you sell.

Geez, for $65K you can get a whole lot of boat! Hell, I paid less than that for a brand-spanking-new 280 Powerquest a couple years ago, and there are a TON of used boats in that price range.
What are your needs? How are you going to use the boat?

Youve got a big heavy boat like me. Is it bottom painted? What are you using for props? What would it take to do thru hull exhausts, a cams and intake manifold? Depending on what your running now, you might be suprised. For examle, I have an older Four Winns Liberator. It had a very restrictive muffler system but thru hull exhaust. Big block but bad intake with an adapter for the Holley carb. Staniless 3 blade prop but 10 year old technology. I removed the corkscrew mufflers and added shotgun mufflers, changed the intake to a Weiand Stealth and went with a Merc Rev4 prop. I picked up 10mph. I bought the prop and Shotguns here used and intake from Jegs. Total investment was about $700.

I can deal with spending 700.00 for 10 miles an hour. That sounds to good to be true. I'll try to posting the exact parts on the boat in about two weeks when I take it out!!
