I have a 23nova w single 260, but older (83) and heavier.
All Nova's seem to be a good value for the money.
Here's one from boatrader that might help with your question:

Ahhhh mcollinstn, your post brings back memories..
My first hi perf offshore ride was in the original NOVA MARINE 24
in very early 70's I think.Had 351W Holman Moodys V Drive inboards. The owner became a bit of a boating legend here.
I will always have fond memories of that boat. The styling was 30 years ahead of its time.

Myself and ragtop409 are both familiar with the 23 Nova. The Nova is not a "heavy" boat by no means. The older Wellcrafts just like any other manufacturer were "heavy" compared to more recent models.
You say it has a 502 but is a 26'. The 26' Nova was only made with twins as far as I know. Are you sure it isn't a 23' and the current owner is calling it a 26'?
More than likely, it is a Scarab. If so, it is pretty fast - but it has virtually no freeboard or cabin space. Not a good rough water boat. Also, it chine walks pretty bad when trimmed and WOT.
My .02 cents
