New Canadian noise regs for 2003 season

Well,its finally hit here too. We now have "muffler" laws. No dB regs like the USA but we must now have working mufflers on our boats subject to a $350.00 fine. Silent choice is illegal now unless locked in the thru the prop position or you install mufflers on the open side of the valves. Only race boats being raced or prepaired and old antiques are excempt.

Yea, how exactly do they define a muffler. When we had only that part of the law here, my contention was that the water in the exhaust stream acted as a muffler (which it does). Nobody wanted to go to court and prove otherwise.

"The installation of the following components in a wet exhaust line would be considered as complying with the regulation:
-a waterlock; is a device intended to prevent back flooding of cooling water into the exhaust manifold with a side benefit of some noise reduction."
I am not an attorney but this is how my exhaust and A LOT of exhaust systems are designed, and seem compliant per the link
