Dump the excess water overboard. Mine is through a separate fitting in the side of the boat.

When I installed mine a couple months ago, they limited the pressure to 25psi as from Merc. I wanted lower pressure, so I ordered a set of springs from MacMasterCarr for a couple bucks. Pressure is now max at 19-20. I also welded a 3/4" bung on the exit side, (back side of the valve) of my silent choice divertor valves to dump the excess water. I didn't want to install thru hull dumps. Just a personal preference. Back4More did the exact same spring replacement as I did at the same time. We both had comparable results.

I was just told by a reputable engine builder that a #6 line off the back of the intake manifold would lower pres. by 5 psi and two #6 lines into a #8 out the boat would drop 10 psi.I am going to try this over the weekend. He also said to remove thermostat and use restricor plate.Any one try any of this already and am I waisting my time?

I heard the same thing from an engine builder too. He didn't indicate the amount of pressure dropped but the configuration is the same.

I have tried many different ways of doing this before using a spring type of valve, and none of them worked well enough to supply the correct pressure at all rpm's.
The restrictor plate in the thermostat housing does not work either. That ends up screwing with the engine water temps. And that varies with different lake water temps..

if you are running CMI HEADERS, you need to becareful that you are not depriving water to the headers. Have seen on headerds that too much water flow will cause the headers to turn golden color and if not enough will do the same. On engines with cross overs would not recomend. The location where the pressure releif valve is located is after the oil coolers. Since the cross over does not use a circ pump, you need the pressure for proper cooling..
