Oh and I should add that you can get more hp out of a 280.....like 20 more and not hurt the reliability, try that with a 300X and it's PCM555 computer.
I should also add that the listed weights of these motors are askew as the idiots that price them.

Default interesting

Fire,

You sound like you have some in depth knowledge of these motors from racing. If I added the oil injection do you think it would void the warranty? Performance wise you are saying the 2.5 should be equal with the 300x's. Everyone is telling me the 300''s will be 5-6 mph faster on the top end. My fear is that the 2.5' seem faster because of the noise and the performance diff is negligible.

Here in St Pete lots of room to let her run. 3-5min full throttle run's ...which motor will be better suited to longer high revs?

How many Hours can I expect out of the 2.5 vs 300x

What 'hop up's" can you do to a 2.5/

my limited understanding is there are 2 280 s the regular and the race. the race redlines at 8600 among other changes.

2.5 redline from the factory should redline at 8000RPM for the offshore model not the Drag.

Default 2.5 Race

Maximus,

There are a couple friends of ours out here running both set-ups that you are considering. I have been in both 30' spectre's one with 300 Pro-Max, and the other with 2.5 race. The 30 with the 2.5 race seemed to have alot more get up and go on top and bottom, although it could have been driver error on the part of the 300, new motors, new boat. The 2.5's smoke on cold startup like a van full of pot smokers in front of a local high school, but the motors seem to be more user friendly in the repair area and make alot of power. The 2.5's seem to pull alot harder on top, not sure why maybe just the two stroke thing.
Im actually quite surprised that you are going to a set of blenders. I would see you pushing a couple of normally aspirated 540's or ?, and getting the attitude and noise out of the motors that you know and love. I would also have to add that by talking to friends which own outboards, they seem to be alot less expensive to maintain, cheaper on gas, and very reliable.

Default Three D

I'm going to try something different with the blenders. There has to be a reason these outboard guys are as fanatic about their power as we are about bigblocks. This also happens to be perfect timing between big boats to have a little fun and sharpen my skills. The little boats keep you on your toes.

How's Maximus running/ I saw the video taken of her in the july 4 poker run. I'll send you a copy. it's great footage.

what's the deal with 2.5 hop ups?
