Everyone hit it right on the head...
The Hustler will be alot faster ( 10+ mph ) than the Sonic, with comparable power, however you give up several things: Head Room, Ammenities, Ride Quality. The Sonic will give a more comfortable ride than the Hustler due to weight & the straight deep V, compared to the Hustlers step bottom and its well over 1200 lbs lighter.
It all comes down to what you want & where you boat & the conditions. As several have said, they are two completely different boats, pro's & cons to each.
I love my 42, but I'm not as fast as a 42 Tiger, or Fountain with the same setup. But my ride and ammenities are much better. I have been told the same thing from a Tiger & Fountain owner ( no digs or disrespect to either boat or brand, both nice boats ). They feel every little bump and wave, not to mention the water passing under their feet. I feel none of this in my 42, with in reason/water conditions. For the majority, my ride is awesome. You will be hard pressed to get the same ride quality & ammenities of the Sonic in a competitors boat.
Bottom line, its all in what you want. Good Luck !
