Indy:

It's not a matter of center of gravity. It's a matter of polar moment of inertia.

A weight distribution of 40/60 would be better.

I have yet to have a jap car out run our C4. Integras, Accord V6, RSX type S, BMW 318is and 325 is. I had a Turbo RSX owner ready to piss his pants as the Automatic tranny was chirping into third at 73mph. Chirped enough to break the car sideways.

Again, what would you rather listen to, a 350 cubic inch V8 with headers, and an open exhaust, or a raspy 4 banger that sounds like some pissed off bumble bees in a pop can.

Alright, usuall y i will simply pass by a thread such as this one, but some of the remarks are too over the top for me to let go woth out simply putting some factual info on the table.

August 1st, issue Car and Driver, 2002 405 HP Zo6
=0-60= 3.9 seconds
=1/4 mile time=12.4 seconds at 116 mph.

Motror trend may 2003 2003 mustang cobra, vs 2003 C5 (both convertibles)
Corvette(with 45 HP less than the Cobra)
=0-60=4.72 seconds
=1/4 mile=13.02 seconds @109.59 mph

Mustang Cobra(390 Hp)
=0-60=13.12
=1/4 mile [email protected]

Corvette z06(385 hp) vs Viper ACR vs Cobra R
Cobra R (price $55,000)
0-60 in 5.4 and 1/4 mile time of 13.4 @116mph

Viper ACR (price $86,000)
0-60 in 4.3 seconds and 1/4 mile time of 12.4 at 120 mph

Corvette Z06 (PRICE $ 48,500)
0-60 in 4.4 seconds and 1/4 mile at 13.0 seconds at 116 mph
LAP TIME WAS 1 SECOND FASTER THAN THE MUSTANG AND 2 SECONDS FASTER THAN THE VIPER.

02 corvette 0-60 at 3.9 seconds, if thats not a fast car in your book, thaen maybe you need to re-write it.

its funny to see how the corvette performance bashing ends when real numbers are put onto the screen.

My comment was that they need to step it up to compete with the Europeans. They need a high end version with some serious HP in it, better interior. Something world-class from America.

Like the Benz, each model is available with lower and higher HP and interiors. If people want it, they'll pay.

Keep comparing numbers and Corvette comes out on top. Yes you can buy a new viper for $75K and have a good car, but for a little over $50K and add$10K for a little work, the vette will kick the @#$! out of the viper, because a stock ZO6 is as fast or a tenth slower off the showroon floor. As far a the European 'stuff" yes lots of handling, lots of torque, and LOTS of money. Hey a SL 55AMG has 606HP and 728lbs of torque and is almost as quick as the stock ZO6 @ $135K. America rules. If they ever really let it all hang out and went against the EPA, and all the other Govermental rules, the sky would be the limit.

I find the 3.9 zero to sixty figure on the Corvette to be optimistic.

Zero to sixty, and quarter mile times don't tell you how well the car handles.

I don't consider this post to be "bashing", I'm trying to be objective.

And just what numbers would those be? Motor Trend has the 2003 Viper SRT-10 at 3.9 0 to 60 and 11.77 sec @123.6 MPH 1/4 mile. I don't see any numbers like that posted above. Again I love the Corvette but the new Viper will serve it up roasted on a silver platter. Show me a side by side comparison where the Corvette beats the Viper SRT-10. I want to see it. And no I don't mean the last years ACR Viper either.

Also you have opened a new can of worms with the 10 grand of work. Take your Z06 and throw 10K in it and come see me. I have a little Japanese 6-banger and a hairdryer that would take your money and throttle your Corvette back to Bowling Green leaving you to wonder what the hell you stepped in.

Take care,
Roby
