Sorry to hear this. He did the 502 in my 271 FasTech before Formula put it in, 541 hp when they were done, awesome motor, sounded and ran insane!!!

He was hurt pretty bad in the accident but was going to pull through. They were prepping him for surgery when things took a bad turn for the worse and he never recovered. My condolences to their family. He was a legend.

I raced with/against John in Comp Eliminator before we went Pro Stock, him truck, me car.
He ran an awesome A/ED that everyone knew was fast.
He also did a zz502 that Arizona Speed and marine screwed up. He was the man. He invited me up to drive his latest vette and the new Viper package he just finshed (2000).
I really wish I would have taken the time.
He always had a smile on his face, and was a great ambassador for all forms of motorsports.
He will be sorely missed!

Great Comeback by John Lingenfelter
I remember reading an article several years back (probably 8 years) in one of the car magazines where they would do their annual top speed tests (Road & Track, I think). In addition to testing stock vehicles, they would test a few "tuner" cars.
That particular year, Callaway brought a BLOWN Camaro to the test which ran about 185 (remember, this was like 1995). Lingenfelter had a NATURALLY ASPIRATED Firebird that ran something like 194 !!
Apparently, Lingenfelter's car had a VERY free-flowing exhaust system and was quite loud as a result. One of the writers for the magazine witnessed a conversation between John L. and someone at Callaway right after the 194mph run by the LPE Firebird. The wise-ass Callaway guy said, "Well, we could always take the muffler off of our car." John Lingenfelter cracked a smile and quipped, " . . . and I could strap a blower on mine."
Be careful what you wish for . . .
That will always be the story that comes to mind for me with I hear the name John Lingenfelter; and we will be hearing that name for a long time to come.

Sorry to hear this news. I was always a fan of his cars and dreamt of getting one. I truely hope that his friends and co-workers carry on to honor his legacy. My heart goes out to his family.

This is sad news to hear and specially on the holidays. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and loved ones.
Lingenfelter did some sweet work!
He and the people that worked for him most certianly knew what they were doing with the naturally aspirated marine engines. I have had nothing but reliable & trouble free operation out of my Lingenfelter 650's in the Chris Cat.
Does anybody know if any family members have taken over his business and if it has still been operating since his accident?
