Boating in North Carolina
I have an opportunity to relocate to the Raleigh area of North Carolina. Is there boating there? The only thing I know about North Carolina is that it is south of NJ. Need some input!!!!!! Thanks in advance!

Try Carolina Powerboat Association's web site . Lots of good people and information there.

The post on Kerr Lake has some information in it. That's probably the closest big body of water to Raleigh.

I live in Raleigh. Lake jordan is a smaller lake that is close by. You can run 100+ for several miles. Only one marina-no food on the lake. Lake Gaston is 1 1/2 HRS north and is a larger lake with multiple marinas, in and and out and dry storage. A few restraunts on the lake. It's a family lake not a party scene. Kerr lake is 1 1/4 HRS north and is more secluded and undeveloped. Lake Norman is in Charlotte and is 3 HRS west of Raleigh. Large Lake-good party scene on weekends & you will run into go-fast boats every weekend and sometimes some NASCAR drivers out on their boats. This lake has all ammenities except a nice motel on the water. Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia is 3 HRS west/north and is very scenic. Full ammenities.
Hope this helps!

Come on Down
Come on down Lucididee.
There are a lot of lakes around to boat on. There are serveral lakes near Raleigh, but the bigger lakes for boating are probably Lake Norman north of Charlotte and Lake Wylie south of Charlotte. We boat on both.
The 2 lakes are separated by Mountain Island Lake and 2 dams.

How rough do these lakes get? I'm used to the Atlantic Ocean and like the rough stuff.

Isn't that little pond, the Atlantic, only 2 hours away? Straight shot down I-40 to Wilmington. You can boat on the Cape Fear River along the Wilmington waterfront or the ICW at Wrightsville Beach or on out to the Atlantic.
