1st Ticket Since December 1977
So I'm driving back to my shop to build a cabinet and I notice a state cop in the left lane behind me. I don't pay any particular attention. All of a sudden he whips behind me and here come the blue lights. In Florida, vehicle registrations expire on midnight of your birthday, which mine is at the end of this month. After the license, registration, insurance card exam, he tells me my plate expired Dec. 31-03 at midnight. I walked back and sure enough it had. Seems Florida deems pick-ups over 5000 GVW "commercial" vehicles though I don't have a commercial tag. And all commercial tags expire midnight Dec. 31. I'm thinking it expires next week. I mean I'm 22 days over and thinking it expires next week. Well I figure I'm gonna get off with a warning, I'm not too worried, and the jerk comes back with a ticket. I mean 22 days and it's reasonable that I would be expecting it to expire next week. Guess that must've changed and I didn't notice. I asked him what about just giving me a warning, I'd go right up and get it changed, DMV less than three miles away. His response, "it's not my job to give warnings, just to enforce the law". What a jackass.
Of course if I was a 23 year old hottie I'd gotten away with a smile and "now be sure to take care of that miss". A$$hole.....
