Longest leg is only 300 Miles that does not take the gas engines out of the equation at all.
The diesel powered record SF-LA was broken last year but the time elapsed record is still held by a gas engine and that is something around 400 miles I think in the Pacific no less.

Glad to see it finally happened. Understandably an even to this magnitudes will require a lot of money to put on. I'd just hate to see this turn into a "reality TV" deal, where the producers make most of the money.

Entry Fee: $10,000 discounted rate for the first 20 entrants accepted. $20,000 entry fee for all additional entrants.
$10,000 x 20 = $200,000
$20,000 x 10 = $200,000
total = $400,000
