Dude, Blowers, Whipples, you have thousands of options. I had a pretty good party for my 40th but she spent way too much money, I would say just have a party and invite as many OSOers as you can. if that doesnt work i would take Norts suggestion, hell i might take his at 41 A$$ & TITIES can keep you young.

Dandy Dyno Don,
$1000 isn't chump change to most of us. I mean no offense to SOTW or those who participate in it as it is really a cool event---wished I could afford it. They do a nice job there and I always try to drop by, BUT droping that kind of SMACK for a glorified boat ride is (for the most part) for people who can afford to lose it. Not that you wouldn't have fun at the SOTW poker run, but not only are you gambling away your hard earned $$$, but you are also gambling on the weather and water conditions being cooperative as well---cuz you don't have the option of getting your money back either way!
However, I think you'd feel much better about yourself if you'd take your boat back up north again and make a four day weekend out it or something---and if the weather is bad you always have the option of canceling the trip and saving your money until next time. Plus, you can always drop by the SOTW poker run without actually officially participating in it with a dinner and the remote possibility of winning and all-------but you can still at least see and run with all the boats---and if it rains or the winds are blowin' hard out of the NW with 5'+ waves----relax, cuz you're not out a thing money wise!
Whatever you choose to do---SOTW, NASCAR, boat parts or a nice little vacation up north with your boat, I hope the sun shines for you and you have an enjoyable 40th B-Day brother!

I am bias on the SOTW event
and the race car experience is way cool as well
i am hoping to do that myself some time soon
Don,
If i have to stump for our event i guess i would offer this
look at it this way you get a 1 in a 100 (approx)
chance to win $10,000 at SOTW
the odds to get a shot of your boat in Powerboat Mag are better than that
they usually cover about 10 boat shots in there mag (1in10) and they will be here to cover the event all weekend
and at least you get TWO days of fun for your $1000
You also get a professionally done DVD of the event (about 2 hours long )and snapshots are taken of your boat (you pay for enlargements)
you get fed like Kings--We have ordered the food already and food is going to be great ----
Saturdays dinner will be Steak and Lobster tail
Friday is going to be great as well (Secret menu)
Breakfast will be full course
Lunch will be conducive to getting in and back out again on the water
Our gift bag when you arrive has always had some great stuff that says you have been a part of the event (more than just T Shirts)
Taking the Make a Wish Kids for rides is More satisfying than any thing else we do
the looks on there faces and the letters we get through the year from the kids are priceless(see our web site)
the auction for the kids is fun on Friday night
running your boat is definitely part of this event but
This event is nothing like "a glorified boat ride"
more like a grand charity event that you get to be a part of
We are told we are now Make A Wish of Michigan's second largest single contributing event to there cause
last year our participants helped to provide them over $29,000
the camaraderie is great and the atmosphere is wonderful
you can peer over the fence at a racing event or you can be a part of the excitement in the stands
we have chatted a bit about this and trust me even if the weather (6 to 7 foot waves) canceled the run on the water we have a back up plan that will make this event fun regardless
you will still draw all your cards and a winner will be named regardless
my hope is you will join our event for two real reasons
1) It is the best thing you can do for children who are less fortunate than all of us
2) you will have a great time with great people who have the same passion for your hobby as you have
I will now get off my soap box and return you to your regularly scheduled day
hope we see you at the event
