Y'all in FL probably know this, but an interesting editorial in the latest BoatU.S. mag had some thoughts about using technology in lieu of burdensome regs to solve problems. Here's what they had to say about manatees: "Another promising example of using technology to solve a public policy problem would be the development of a device that would transmit a sound from a boat through the water to alert manatees to an approaching vessel. Or conversely, putting a device on a manatee so that boaters with a receiver onboard would know where a manatee is lurking underwater. This is an approach that BoatU.S. endorsed a number of years ago in Florida and since then the state government has funded some fundamental research into this area. A recent report from the Mote Marine Laboratory, Florida State University and the Florida Marine Research Institute indicates that manatees react to the sound of an approaching boat by accelerating and swimming to deeper water."
This info might be useful as you make your calls. Good luck!!

My wife had a practically strap me in the damn chair. It amazed me that some of the boating people in my neighborhood that feed right into the Manatee deal and were ready to just write the check!!!
