It was the first time that I had my wife help me launch the boat. I backed down the ramp, got everything set to that once I got the boat off the trailer she could pull straight out. Evrything goes as planned until I realize that I pulling away from the ramp without the plug. I proceed to scream at my wife to back the trailer in while going as fast as I can in circle to keep as much water as possible from flowing in. After what seemed to be 30 minutes (in reality she did a good job and it took 2 minutes) I finally got the boat on the trailer and told her to pull it out. Oops, now I forgot the lower unit was still down. When all was done, it took a while to pump out the water and I had some nice damage on my lower unit. And to top it all off, it happened within in feet of a company picnic that was in full swing.

Almost, but since you remimded us. That was I think one of the first times I've ever been to the Casino. If It makes you feel better not everyone saw it. I was in the bathroom.

LOL!
Not really me or while boating ,,, but still qualifies anyway .... I owned a classic '72 18' Wellcraft Airslot, pseudo tri-hull (no steps), completely overpowered with a '78 175HP BlackMax Merc, for about 3 years. By year #3 I decided it was no longer worth the expense to take this beauty out of the water for the winter, plus who doesn't like taking a little spin in the middle of December or January in frigid NJ, right???

Sitting peacefully in the backyard, waiting for spring thaw, each day I remind my wife, who keeps asking me "is it OK to leave in the water?" .... "Oh Yeah honey, no prob, as long as the ice doesn't get tooooo thick around the hull" One day, after a good run of cold days, I just got out of the shower and walk around to the double glass sliders in my birthday suit. There I see the love of my life ((who, BTW, not only does things like this for me, but is a complete J*E*T*S and YANKS FANatic and can cook too! hehe)) standing outside with a pitchfork reaching down and breaking the ice around the boat! WOW what a girl! Sooo excited seeing this, I turn around to go upstairs and wait to warm her up, and I see her struggling with an unusually thick piece of ice!!??? .... you guessed it .... once it broke thru she went tumbling right into the lagoon!

Little scary at first sight, but it's only @4 feet at the dock, she stands up with a look they made digital cameras for I started hollering with laughter, till I was crying and she came in the house screaming "WELL, why didn't you come help me???" Standing there nAKid and laughing what could I say?? She got the last laugh though, as I got nuttin' honey!! LOL

Can't make this stuff up ... We still laugh about this all the time!

Took a 23' boat with a 16 degree hull and a 454 magnum into 4-5 footers. What was I thinking? But the funny thing is I see 18' Sea Ray bow riders go out in the middle of Lake Erie all the time in really rough stuff. They have a look on their faces like they are enjoying themselves and I was praying to make it back to shore. Ever see that? Waves going over the bow?

Took my cousins brand new 25 Fountain out on it's maiden voyage to see how she would handle 4 foot seas. He had left the anchor loose in the anchor compartment with nothing restraining it. Anchor put a hole about the size of a baseball by the beak. Went right through the glass and gelcoat out the other side. He was not happy. We noticed when we were putting it back on the trailer.

First of all, I would like to admit to doing what Mitch mentioned, taking non-boaters out on the boat. One, they dont try to help when they should. Two, they dont know what they are doing when they do try to help.

Good story, unrelated to above,,,,,sort of. We were hanging out on the boats at one of the local boardwalk/bar areas where you could tie up and drink, party, and go into a couple of clubs. Its just a long dock so you have to tie off to each other and walk across the back of the boats. One of my friends girlfriends brought along a roommate. Not to bad looking if I may add, but annoying as all he!!. She had a little bit of a elevated self opinion of her looks and who she was. So, happily, she decides to go into the clubs with some of the other people. They start walking across the backs of the boats and you can see as she started to loose her balance.. Left hand reaches out for the closest thing to steady herself with, which happens to be a swim ladder. Well, I think we all know how those are designed to work. Next thing you see is her going into the water and popping up. Best part, to her credit I may add, she never relinquished her drink which was in her right hand. And her attitude toned down just a bit after that one.

I have NEVER done even ONE stupid thing EVER while boating. I am the consummate mariner. . . . well, except for the ONE time when I had a few too many, and had this HOT chick onboard, and - well - sunk the boat.

But other than THAT. . . .

My brother, who I don't particularly get along with very well, and his wife had asked me to meet them at the local ramp to participate in a sea trial with them. After introductions were made, the gentleman selling the boat started to back the boat down the ramp. This was to be my brother's second boat. His first boat was on a "bunk style" trailer. As the boat was going down the ramp, my brother reached out to unsnap the winch hook. Noticing that this boat was on a "roller style" trailer, I suggested he might not want to do that. Now my brother is one of those, "I know everything" types, if you don't believe him you can just ask him and he will tell you.
He snapped back at me to "quit telling him what to do". Now I'm one of those types that if it's not mine, I don't touch. That philosophy prevents a lot of problems I've learned over the year. I simply replied, "I really wouldn't do that" to which he replied, "shut up". I just walked over to the dock and waited. About one second later, my brother's eyes got about as large as bowling balls, bulging out of his head, as the boat started to roll off the trailer, and with a sickening crash/crunch it hit the pavement about three feet short of the water line. All I said was "uh, you missed the water". I just walked over to my truck and drove home. My brother bought the boat. Then he had to have the skeg and prop replaced. I have to admit, I laughed all the way home. The look on his face was priceless. And I didn't have to say anything more.
