Selling US boat to a Canadian, anything special involved?

Re: Selling US boat to a Canadian, anything special involved?
I can write up a bill of sale, but the registration is just for plates.
When I sell the trailer, my old registration is null and void.
There is no provision for signing over a registration, just the title.
I will have him check with customs. I think that he already did, but I will make sure so he doesn't have problems.
Thanks again.

$6K is well under the $10k and over you have to declare when you are crossing the border, just to let you guys know.

Exactly, for 6k i would try to make it a cash deal if possible, Maybe I'm just paranoid but i don't know what legal recourse you have if for some reason the check is no good considering the boat will be in a foreign country. I walked away from a boat deal a few years ago up near lake simcoe, i really wanted the boat however, the terms kept changing and it just didn't feel right but in the end one of the main reasons I didn't buy it was because i didn't know what rights i had in Canada if i were to get screwed.

Make sure you can read the VIN numbers on the trailer clearly. I sold my last boat to a Canadian gentleman and agreed to deliver it across the border (I don't want to ever do that again). Boat was on an Eagle trailer... I'd never paid any attention to the VIN number... come to find out, the VIN number was on a sticker on the trailer and the numbers were all faded off... luckily the customs agent let it slide thru.
The dude I sold it to had visited customs days before the transaction, and had been assured that if all the paperwork was in order (titles, VINS, lien releases) all he would have to do is pay the duty, register it to Canada on the spot, and they would let it cross. Well, someone changed their mind by the time we got there... they wanted to impound it for three days for the paperwork to clear! But he got lucky again and found the same guy he had talked to a couple days earlier that assured it could go across, and they did let it go finally.
They sure weren't happy with me parking the truck and trailer at the border while all this was being done... I got several ass-chewings! One would tell me to park it in the compound... another one would come along and ask me what the hell I thought I was doing!! You can't park here... you can't stop at the border... you can't cross the border... you can't go anywhere but you can't stay either!!
What a nightmare. Let him take it across the border.
