I have in my head from somewhere that for every 200-225 pounds that you lose 2 mph. What I dont remember is at what weight level that applies to ?
200 pounds effects a 5000 pound boat moreso than a 10,000 pound boat if they both run the same top speed, right ? Can anyone explain or is there a formula that can explain how much weight effects things in a boat ?
Thanks in advance.

Actually, I don't see anything near a 2 mph difference in my boat's speed whether I'm alone or have 2-3 others with me. Granted, most of my friends weigh less than 200 lbs. 24 Baja Outlaw, currently without power though....

I suspect that air temperature and humidity has more effect than a few hundred pounds, at least in my experience in a single 28' boat. I've had one passenger and light fuel in hot/humid days, and I was faster with 3 friends & full fuel on a cooler fall day. I know this doesn't answer your question, but other factors come in to play also.

I'm wanting to know if there is a formula that determines how weight effects things when all other things are equal or are accounted for.
Thanks guys.

Jamie'
I think it depeends on the type of hull as well as the brand. In my 42 fountains I never saw much if any difference. However in my can there is an noticeable difference. I think the formula for it is 1mph for ever 200lbs and the nortech is similiar.
