AdAware free edition.
AVG Antivirus free edition.
AVG will auto update and run on a schedule. It is compatible with XP SP2's virus monitor.
free AdAware has to be updated and run manually. Just run it when you notice a popup where you shouldn't or see more disc acvitity than normal.
That's what I do.

You can find Ad-aware at www.cnet.com look under downloads... be sure to look for the "free" edition.. The other ones cost ... good luck.

I'm running Spybot which helps, downloaded trial verision of spydoctor and it found like 100 other spies that spybot did not but cost 40.00 to uninstall them, dirty trick.

I installed the Ad-aware S.E. 1.5 and it keeps shutting down my computer. I`ve uninstalled and reinstalled several times and it still won`t work.

yahoo has a free spyware remover that has worked the best for me. i run an IT dept at work and have to clean up about 3 machines a week.
if you download the yahoo toolbar, it is incorporated in there.
