I have hauled 12,000 lbs for local trips and it's ok, but 70 on the interstate is it unless you stay in the passing gear. Not sure about a 1/2 ton, but it's probably only a little less. (Huge difference in how much tongue weight it will carry!)

Does it make me schizophrenic for quoting myself? Or was 1 side of my brain unable to get the point across as well as the other side?

I agree, didnt do a lot of research when I got the Suburban, just does not have the capisity I need. I could alway's keep it and pick up a late model Duelly.
Thanks for all the help gang, Just a bad idea to pull with it when over weight.

My max tow would be Northern Michigan! Heck if I can swing the boat I want I could launch in Grand Haven and go by water to the north
All kidding aside would bags and gears work?

If you can afford to pay for your boat and suburban cash, and then hand the keys and title to a perfect stranger and say 'keep it', then yes, you can tow it with your suburban with bags and gears.
Insurance will kill ya. It's not you you have to worry about, it's the other guy that hits you. They aren't playin anymore. Anything that happens will mean they drop you, and you are left with nothing...

WTF. If I am going to go into debt on the boat might as well throw in a used truck also
If I ever go down I want to go BIG!

I think the Z-71 only comes in the 1/2 ton.... and you will need the 3/4 ton for sure!!!
I have used 1/2 ton surburbans for towing before (at the time a 23 & 30ft Velocity) and the 1/2 ton Suburban was toped out with them!!! (the 30ft weighed @ 6500lbs) I towed with 2wd and 4wd and even a lifted 4wd. All I can say is don't lift it!!! If the trailer has any sway, you will be pulled all over the road!!!
The weak point in the tranny like someone said before!!
If you really want that style of truck go 3/4ton or try the ford Excursion w/ the powerstroke....
This is from a chevy guy!!!!

Not 100% sure yet, but my best guess is 38ish feet. Weight should be around 12K #'s with the trailer.
My current boat is 29' and near 8K with trailer, my suburban is stressed out from pulling it on hilly terrain this summer.
Good thing I leased it because I wouldnt want to own it long term. The Z-71 is a kick butt vehical but it's more of a socer mom truck than a tow vehical.
