I'll probably be up there both weekends. Looks like about 8" of ice on the lake right now but the temps are pretty warm today and tomorrow. Hopefully it cools back down and then dumps a bit of snow towards the 13th

Houghton Lake Trail Report:

BASE: ice with snow
PAST 24 Hrs: 0
CONDITION: fair
The trail's have a ice base so becareful. The trail are fair. We are grooming but could use more snow before tip-up-town weekend. Trail 654 is reroute for repairs at boyes road and pete road. They will start soon, so watch out for truck out there. Houghton Lake has 8 to 12 inches of ice, with snow on it. We can not say it is safe, so becareful! And remember the groomers have the right of way!

I was at my cabin 20 miles south of houghton lake 2 days ago and there was 6-8 i9nches of fresh snow that fell thurs night but no base on the trails,tried riding but kicking up ALOT of dirt and rocks,Smitty

I heard higgins isn't completely frozen but houghton lake is more like a pond,it usually freezes except along the southwestern edge and that will be marked on all the maps at every restaurant and snowmobile dealer,Smitty
