Can anyone just answer the question?????????? Stop the phuc'in around...
I believe both are great after owning both.
502 stronger internals for supercharging and more suitable for upgrades.
496 smarter motor technology wise. Fewer upgrade options. Closed cooling and easy to winterize. More maintenance free.
I would say 496 has the edge if you leave it stock.

From what I see so far it is confirming my feelings that the 496 is not as durable as the 502's. It is a nice piece of high tech equipment but not a true replacement for it's predecessor which has more in common with the 525's we see out there than with the 496's.
Reggie always maintained that the 502's were bullett proof. We chatted about the 502's a while back and they were his favoriite platform at the time. I will have to ask him where he is at with HO's in a 35'er. It's getting time to start thinking spring. Sold the old boat. Boatless is a bad feeling.

I always thought the 502 was a great motor base, don't know why it was ever discontinued. 496 HO is a good motor now, they had issues with the first few runs, i know all this because I have had 2 others up until I got this newest one in June 04'
