top end rebuilds for 500rfi and 496ho ?

from what I've read it looks like normal maint. to rebuild the top end of a 500efi @200hrs , does the 496 ho require the same thing or are they not prone to as much maint. ?

26 Sonic Iwas told same thing.Ijust pulled heads off my 2000/500/efi The head gasket was about to blow Iwas told Iwould need valvesprings also.The engine has 210 hrs on it.

500efi rebuild??? no just need to change the valve springs at 200-250 hours,
I changed mine at 275 and had a broken inner spring and didn't know it, ran perfect. So yes chane the springs.

Correct,,, 500HP-EFI you should look at valve springs every 200-250 hours.
496 does not fall into thta category.

got my family +performance boating mag and their feature article this month is top end rebuild 500efi @200hrs that is why I asked this question .

The feature article was done on our very own PhantomChaos' 38 Formula. His motors had about 250 hours on them.

Heard the same thing over time, and read the same article. The 500's allure is less appealing to me now...

Don't think that 500efi is faulty because of the springs,, any high performance motor over 200-250 hours need this done, some real high HPs need it done every season. Its just what you want, more HP is going to be more maint.
