Default Velocity 22'

I am currently looking at a 1997 velocity 22' with a 454/bravo with 197 hours on it. The guy is asking 14,000 for it. The hull is in nice shape with no deep scratches. The sundeck needs recovering, but everything else appears nice. Is 14k too much? What issues dose this hull have? Would I be better off with a 22' scarab?

I think that is a lot more boat than a 22 Scarab. There are several OSO member who own or have owned a 22 Velocity and they will probably chime in soon.

My buddy just sold a 97 22' scarab 454/bravo combo for 17K. I think that price is pretty darn good for that Velocity.

We have a 1985 22' Velocity and absolutely love it. Its a fast boat, but it takes some time to learn how to get the last few mph out of it.

I've spent quite a bit of time in a 22' Thoroughbred rigged just like that. It's a very fast boat and has the ability to be a very scary boat. Spend some time in the seat getting to know it before trying to eeek everything out of it.

I say go for it!

A friend of mine had one for two seasons.
Very nice boat for the money. He paid $12k for his, about 5 years ago. The boat had almost 300 hours on it when he traded it on a new boat.

The boat slapped real bad..until he put a set of bennett tabs on it. I remember he had to get Bennett to give him shorter rams...
The boat had a 365hp, and external steering. I believe it ran 72mph.
It's a full on sit down boat, so rough water sent spikes up your spine... Other than that, you can't go wrong.

Beat them down on the $$ a bit, then thoroughly check the engine.. and go for it.

I have had a 1985 Steve Stepp Velocity since 1987. I love this boat. Once you get the feel how to drive it ,you will enjoy squeezing the last few mphs out of it. My son and I started at 66 mph in 1987 and now can get 84 mph out of it. We have smoked a lot of 22 scarabs over the years. Weight placement , the right drive height, prop selection, makes a big difference. Enjoy it. Frank sr

In my Opinion, It is "hands down" a better boat than the Scarab. Like others stated, it takes a bit to figure out how to drive a Velocity, but once you do, you'll be blowing bye a lot of other boats out on the water!! I had a 23ft Velocity and loved the way it ran!! Now when the water get's real rough it can slap the water, but that is because of the 12'' pad on the bottom, it's what makes it fast, but also makes it rough.

I have a 22ft Velocity now, that is just a project boat.......but one of these days I hope to be able to post something like Velocity22 posted!!
