Fountain 48 what do you think?
Thinking about buying a Fountain 48' cruiser. I know awhile back someone on this forum was doing a survey on one. What do you think of the quality? The layout works for me. What about resale value 2 or 3 years later? Ken

Fountain builds to ISO 9000 standards, which means you don't have to worry about quality. And with the new triple 480HP Yanmar/Arneson package you should get 70mph. Very few 48' cruisers can match that.

They have 440 hp Yanmars with ASD. I have been told when you fill up the fuel tanks (457 gals) that the speed drops down to 55mph. I wounder what that does to the rpms?

A friend owns a 2004. He has had some issues with things like the head and a water leak around the bow thruster that may have been due to shipping damage. The boat does 55-59 depending on load. It will run wot all day without missing a beat. It has a lot of systems on it and so there are always going to be things breaking, but that is the same as any loaded cruiser-which it is. The ride is pretty sweet and it will run full speed in 3-5 no problem. After that the stepped hull gets a little poundy-not a problem if you slow down ( he doesn't). If you want a cruiser that can do 50 plus all day then it is great. If you are willing to go slower there are a lot better buys on the market in a big cruiser. If you want a go fast sport boat stick to the 47 or 42.
As for resale i would try and purchase one used since they lose a lot of value in the first year or two-there are some VERY good deals out there on a 48.
