Default Water flow & Exhaust Question

Just had the 500 EFI's rebuilt, used the original CMI headers and added straight tail pipes dumping the water at the end.

Had the boat on the hose Saturday and noticed that on the starboard engine there was more water coming out the right exhaust then the left exhaust, both before you cranked the engine and while the engine is running.

The engine runs great, the water temp is right where it should be and the water pressure is great.

We put the boat in the water yesterday and I noticed at the docks that about twice as much water was coming out the right as the left at idle in the water.

When I felt of the headers and tail pipes the right was was very cool all over.

The left side was cool everywhere except where the header and tail pipe connect. You could hold your hand on it, but it was warm for about three inches on each side of the coupling.

Anyone have an idea of what is going on here. I called my mechanic and he said that I was noticing this more with the new tailpipes then with the old silent choice system, that all motors did this, that there is never an equal amount of water on both sides.

But the other engine is perfect, equal on both sides and no warm spots on the headers.

Thanks in advance

Doc

Well, my mechanic just called and he spoke with Merc and they tell him this is somewhat normal.

I called Randy at CMI and he says he has seen it before and if the headers are not getting hot enough to discolor that I should not worry about it.

Guess I need not worry!

Do you have the stock T-stat housing????

I know there is a rod with balls on the ends on my 525sc that can be adjusted to balance the flow.

Simple ball valve installed on the water outlet hose will cure the problem. Personally I prefer to dump water equally out of both pipes. That is how I fixed mine.

Yes it is the stock housing. They did add new thermostats.

That is a check valve assembly, not a pressure or flow regulator. Besides, it is self centering.
