Bravo X/XR Recall notice
I just received a safety recall notice in the mail reguarding
Bravo X and Xr drives possibly requiring a back cover replacement. It states the back cover in question may be
making contact with the shift link bar, which could cause the shift system to fail. It also states that a visual inspection of the cover by a Mercruiser Dealer can determine if it needs replacement.
My outdrive is a 2005 Bravo X. The Recall sounds like they can look at the outside of back cover and tell if its the wrong one??? Is this only for 2005 or does this pertain to all years?
anyone know of this problem?

Re: Bravo X/XR rcall notice
I believe it only pertians to some of the new shimmable bravos and what they need to look at is inside the cap not on the outside so the cap need to be removed, not a big deal though.

Re: Bravo X/XR recall notice
It is a Shift link bar contact with the back cover, I believe. If it were to break, it would cause the drive to lose shift control. If your drive falls into the serial number range, you will need to pull the cover to inspect if it has the updated cover or not. Reference Bulletin # 2005-01. Serial numbers effected are OW250000 thru OW266345 for X I, II, III drives, and OW240000 thru OW240652 for XR's I, III. All effected owners will receive a recall notice along with all Mercruiser dealers. This is a Federal Boat Safety Act Official Nonfiction, (like a car safety recall, not just a normal service bulletin) It is recommended to not use the boat until this is resolved.
This is my latest information. I, too , have a 2005 X drive, which I think is the only year affected.

Re: Bravo X/XR rcall notice
I contacted My Dealers Service Manager in reference to the Recall. He said it is an easy job for Him to fix, just don't wait on it, bring it in as soon as you can .Soo, I'll be dropping My boat off tomorrow. Thanks to all that responded...
