Default Clarion Marine Amps / Subs

Anyone with experience using Clarion amps and 10" free-air subs? I am really bouncing all over the place on equipment choices and I can get the Clarion pieces at a deep discount. If you are using the 10" subs, how much legit RMS are you showing them? I was contemplating the APX480M to run the subs and another APX480M running the mids and tweets. I know that baja uses these amplifiers in their boats, and I presume they work great. The alternatives are significantly more expensive- JL, Memphis and/or Alumpapro -and are either not available yet or will require building an enclosure for the subs (which I am trying to avoid). Any thoughts appreciated.

I have a clarion free air 10" in the boat and it is OK, not as good as a typical sealed/ported sub in the proper box but not that bad. I actually got a deal on it and decided if I didn't like it I would make a enclosure and switch subs. It works good enough that that project has moved down the list.

The subs work well. I have typically been impressed with them being that they are free air. I have put a bunch in and to date I am not aware of any that have blown. The amps i do not think are up to the task. There are better out there. Take a look at Rockford for example.

Jon-

I am really hosed for space, and have had my previous amp (a giant, old school USA made Lanzar 6-channel) under the rear seat (with no issues). The interest in the marine amp(s) is I would like to put them in the same place. Have you had luck with the RF Marine "punch" sub? They look pretty good, at least. What kind of RMS wattage are you showing those Clarions? In my 311, about the only place I could put 2 small amps is above or behind the fridge- and I think they would get hot as hell there. I had envisioned 2 10's, 2 6.5's and 2 6.5 components- all in the cockpit) for the full system (although I have a set Babb 6.5's in the bow that I don't currently use). Power would be from a Class D and a 4ch A/B and I was really looking at JL (due to my local dealer). Thoughts?
