HELP? I cant get the Power Steerring Bled
I Just got the Hustler 500efi. running and I tried bleeding the power steering the way Marine machine said by turning it one way and open the hose fitting letting out the air that way ,The pump is pumping . they told me it should self bleed anyway .Nope
I have always had a hard time getting it bled even when the boat was new . the steering has always been stiff? I haven't changed anything on the steering and it was working ok when I took the motors out.
I bled it for about a hour on the trailer on the hose and in the water doing some full lock turns also. There is NO power steering at all .
Any other suggestions???
Thanks for you input

Hey Strip,
I did a post on bleeding steering a while back. These procedures came from Latham. It's a 3-person job, one at the rams, one at the helm, one constantly adding fluid to the reservior.
Take a look at

Hope this helps,
Brian

P4-33 I did do it that way but not that much as in your post. Probably about 3 quarts . The steering wheel acts like the pump is not pumping . No assist.Like the motors is off when you turn it. and it did not change the feel bleeding it . Also did not see any air coming from the rams when bleeding.
I'm frustrated

Re: HELP? I cant get the Power Steerring Bled
I went thru a lot of fluid because my system was dry, new install.
Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but have you checked that your supply and return lines to the pump are in the right order? I see that you've had things completely apart over the winter.
When you're cranking the wheel, does the pump make any noise? Laboring excessively? Are you seeing any movement in the reservour levels when cranking the wheel?
Just trying to understand what's working and what's not.

I also read all on Falcons post . He seems pretty informed on this subject.
I did take the filter apart and clean the element ,it wasnt dirty though. I will also remove the element tonite to see it thats a restriction. I guess maybe I not getting all the air out????
Maybe the pump went bad sitting on the bench?

I dont hear any noise coming from the pump.
I was out side bleeding the lines on the ram while my buddy was filling the res and turning the wheel, Not shure on the level changing when turning .
It just acts like the pump is not pumping .But it did this before when I had the motor out and it finaly bled out .but this time its not .
I did not have the rams apart.just lines
thanks for all the imput

The ram circuit is dead-end, and does not self bleed. If you haven't had it apart, should be air-free.

This might help you understand the plumbing. It's for a dual-pump, dual ram configuration, but most of the components apply to a single-pump system.
